The Surf Coast Trek is an annual joint fundraising event run by Give Where You Live and Kids+, with funds raised shared equally between the two organisations. The Rotary Club of Kardinia is the main source of volunteers for the event, providing around 40 members who assist with event planning, logistics and pre-event packing of participant bags. On the day, they provide parking and bus management, start-line logistics, man drink stations, and follow up the field as ‘Tail End Charlies’.
The Trek, which started in 2016, involves either a 38km walk from Aireys Inlet to Torquay, or a 25km walk from Anglesea to Torquay, along the picturesque Surf Coast Trail. The number of participants has grown each year, with more than 650 people now tackling the trek. Many walkers make it a fixture in their yearly diaries. In the seven years that the event has been held, well over $1,250,000 has been raised.
This year’s trek will be held on Saturday, May 13.
