RotaryTennis Championship serves up a winner

Registrations are open for the International Tennis Fellowship of Rotarians (ITFR) Championship in the lead up to the Melbourne Rotary International Convention. The tournament is open to all standards and ages, and will be held over four days at the iconic Melbourne Park complex, home of the Australian Open.

“Our first World Championship was in Colombo, Sri Lanka, in 2006, and now to be hosting this event in Melbourne, on Grand Slam courts, is very exciting,” said ITFR Chair Marcos Franco from his home in Brazil.

Marcos confirmed that all proceeds from the tournament are donated to End Polio Now.

“To date, we have raised just over US$410,000 from championships,” he said.

Tournament Director Brenton Whittenbury, of the Rotary Club of Adelaide, SA, is aiming for 100 competitors and would like to see a good representation from Australia, particularly Melbourne.

“What a great opportunity to spend quality time with Rotarians from all around the world,” Brenton said.

“I thank the Rotary Club of Melbourne for their assistance in putting this all together. We are offering a full range of events including men’s and lady’s singles, men’s and lady’s doubles and mixed doubles in age categories. There’s even a plate event for first round losers.”

Entrants need to be members of the ITFR, which is free and open to all Rotarians and their partners to join. Visit ITFR.org, follow the link to the Melbourne event and register, or go direct to www.dasunpremadasa.wixsite.com/itfr2023. The tournament fee covers all your play, an opening night cocktail party on May 22, and the Presentation dinner on May 26, the eve of the Convention.

Register before January 31, 2023, to qualify for the early bird discount.
