The forgotten and abandoned 32 Battalion community of Pomfret in north western South Africa has no running water and no electricity… just the will to survive.
But a collaboration between a number of Rotary clubs from Australia and New Zealand, individual donors and community leaders is changing the lives of those living in this isolated community.
Coordinated by the Rotary Club of Chatswood Sunrise, NSW, AU$39,000 was raised to manufacture and deliver 156 Hippo Roller water carriers to the community.
Hippo Roller is a successful 25-year social enterprise that has changed millions of lives in 48 countries with appropriate technology in water-stressed communities by improving access to water with the Hippo Roller, a device used to carry 90 litres of water more easily and efficiently than traditional methods.
