The Melbourne Indigenous Transition School (MITS) enjoys support from a number or Rotary clubs including Beaumaris, Melbourne and Bentleigh Moorabbin Central – the home club of District Governor Ian Ballantine and his partner Helen. The school helps young people from remote Northern Territory and regional Victoria transition to education in Melbourne.
MITS is a specialist Year 7-8 education program, and provides boarding to almost 100 Indigenous students in Years 7-12. The school is located inside the Richmond Football Club at Punt Road Oval and its four boarding houses are a short walk away on Richmond Hill.
Over the years, the school has achieved a learning program that celebrates Indigenous cultures. Wellbeing sits at the core of the school program and every student is supported to ensure their physical, social, emotional and cultural wellbeing is strong.
Through partnerships with organisations including Swinburne University, Bangarra Dance Company, the Monash University Museum of Art and many more, students participate in a vibrant curriculum that makes the most of the opportunities and excitement of Melbourne.
