Lord and Lady Somers Camps is a youth program supported by the Rotary Club of Healesville. The camps focus on bringing together youths from various backgrounds and challenging them to develop their personal and leadership skills as well as team building. Each camp runs for one week and caters for boys and girls aged between 16 to 18.
The camp is located in Somers on the Mornington Peninsula. The original camp was set up in 1929 by the then Governor of Victoria, Lord Somers. Somers aimed to duplicate the success of the hugely popular Duke of York Camps, which were held in the United Kingdom.
The aim of the Lord and Lady Somers camps is to strive for cultural diversity by selecting a cross section of young people that is most representative of the current Australian population in ethnic and socio-economic terms.
After each camp, the participants come back to the club to tell members what they have learned from their experiences at the camp.
