The Rotary Club of Sydney, NSW, in partnership with Police Citizens Youth Clubs NSW (PCYC) is delighted to announce the call for nominations for the 2023 Youth Encouragement scholarships (YES) for young people between the ages of 14-17.
Nominations are circulated widely throughout NSW based Rotary and PCYC clubs, connecting and targeting youth in their various communities and networks.
Each of the awardees will receive up to $3,000, to be announced at the Rotary Club of Sydney’s luncheon on Tuesday, May 2, 2023.
The YES program is built on the foundations of engagement, encouragement, education and elevation to enable successful applicants to achieve their stated goals. The program is directed at making a real-life difference and providing enhanced experiences to the lives of young persons.
The YES scholarships, now in their third year, cover four categories: Arts, Music, Sport and Education, in Urban and Rural Areas. Urban covers the Local Government Areas of Sydney, Wollongong and Newcastle; Rural for the rest of the State of NSW.
Scholarships have ranged from assistance with education and training fees, the purchase of sporting and other equipment, as well as MacBooks to assist with accredited courses.
Previous scholarships have been awarded to candidates from diverse backgrounds and experiences. One such example is a young person from rural NSW, who is participating in a training opportunity at the Ollerup Gymnastics School in Denmark. This highlights the ‘best kept secret’ of the PCYC NSW gymnastics programs, where competitions at local, state, national and international levels are both unique and held in the highest regard.
