The Harding Miller Education Foundation Scholarships

This year will see the completion of the Rotary Club of Mosman’s first scholarship awarded to a successful student through the Harding Miller Education Foundation.

With each full scholarship supported by a donor, or donor organisation, Harding Miller matches the scholarship – so two for one!

The Harding Miller Education Foundation was established in 2015 with a founding corpus that covers all administrative costs, which means 100 per cent of donations go directly to the students.

The foundation is a public benevolent institution advancing the cause of education, providing practical support to girls with high academic potential who are experiencing hardship. The foundation supports female students who are studying at Australian public high schools in Years 9-12, enabling them to stay with their families and stay in their communities. HMEF believes this investment within the public school system returns more to the families, the community and Australian society, where educating and empowering girls has the ability to lift families out of poverty, preventing the cycle of intergenerational reliance on government support.

Each scholarship is valued at $20,000 over four years ($5,000 per year) and provides a new laptop, broadband and PC support, tutoring, online homework help, an expense card for school expenses and a contribution to some miscellaneous costs such as laptop maintenance.

“The club encourages all Rotary clubs to consider participating in this life-changing project, which offers the opportunity to change the course of not one but two high potential girls on full scholarships.”

From 2016 to 2023, a total of one thousand scholarships have been awarded to students throughout every state and territory in Australia.

The Rotary Club of Mosman initiated their support to the foundation back in 2019. The club receives regular updates on its scholar’s progress and members are invited to attend the awards events each year, which enables them to promote Rotary hand in hand with HMEF.

The club encourages all Rotary clubs to consider participating in this life-changing project, which offers the opportunity to change the course of not one but two high potential girls on full scholarships.

Rotarians can also participate in the associated programs for mentoring, judging, and volunteering their time to make a difference to these young girls’ lives.
