Rotarians the big winners in ShelterBox awards

Rotary’s involvement in disaster relief has been recognised during National Volunteer Week, acknowledging Rotary’s key role in sheltering people in need and making lasting change.

In celebration of National Volunteer Week, ShelterBox Australia announced the winners of the 2023 ShelterBox Volunteer Awards, with Rotarians taking out three main awards.

The awards are an annual event, coinciding with National Volunteer Week, aimed at recognising the incredible dedication, effort and community service of the organisation’s volunteer team members.

Now in its fifth year, the event has become a key moment during the year to reflect on the impact that volunteers make in their communities and for people affected by disasters.

This year, the ShelterBox Volunteer Awards were presented across four categories:

  • ShelterBox Fundraiser of the Year Award – Peter Jarvis (Rotary Club of Berri, SA)
  • ShelterBox Volunteer Impact Award – Robert Shore (Rotary Club of Parkes, NSW)
  • ShelterBox Volunteer Excellence Award – Peter Pearce (Rotary Club of Gosford North, NSW)
  • ShelterBox Team of the Year Award – New South Wales

“Rotary has been beside us on our journey from day one, and we are reminded of the significance of our disaster relief partnership each time we reflect on the previous year and our deployments,” ShelterBox Australia CEO Mike Greenslade said.

“It’s supporters right across Rotary who help fund ShelterBox responses around the world – helping people who have lost their homes to disaster or conflict.”

Winners of the ShelterBox Volunteer Awards are chosen from a large volunteer workforce of over 100 people located across Australia.
