The Manatuto Water Project is an initiative of the Manatuto Rotaract Club in Timor-Leste, with the Rotary Club of Dili Lafaek providing invaluable assistance to the Rotaract club and to Area Governor Ray Fauntleroy.
“Karen Kankkunen, wife of District Governor Martti Kankkunen, has made this her DG’s partner’s project and is working with the club to raise funds through donations and grants to provide safe, clean water for the 1,520 students attending the two schools on the site.”
Presently, children have to walk to a nearby river and carry buckets of water to their school. Karen Kankkunen, wife of District Governor Martti Kankkunen, has made this her DG’s partner’s project and is working with the club to raise funds through donations and grants to provide safe, clean water for the 1,520 students attending the two schools on the site – the Kayrala Secondary School and the Vocational Technical School.
Having a reliable water source will greatly enhance the students’ ability to partake in practical unit subjects, including tending the schools’ plantation.
This project will not only benefit today’s students, but all future students for years to come.
